At Gayton Veterinary Group, we’re proud to support veterinary students completing their Extra‑Mural Studies (EMS) as part of their professional training.

Our EMS placements are designed to give students an authentic insight into life in a busy, first‑opinion veterinary practice. You will have the opportunity to observe all aspects of clinical work, including consultations, surgeries, inpatient care, diagnostics, and the essential teamwork that keeps the practice running smoothly.

Throughout your placement, you will be able to shadow our veterinary surgeons, nurses, and support team, gaining valuable exposure to:

• Clinical examinations and decision‑making

• Surgical procedures and anaesthesia monitoring

• Nursing care and patient handling

• Client communication and practice workflow

• The realities of general practice in a supportive learning environment

We welcome students who are motivated, engaged, and keen to develop their understanding of real‑world veterinary practice. EMS placements are observational with opportunities for hands‑on involvement when appropriate and in line with university requirements.
